Making things for your dog.

In my monthly dog magazine, this month had 10 things you can do/make for your dog.
I thought I'd share some of these with you:

Training treats (Liver bread)
This recipe is great for making training treats as it can be cut into any size or shape for the size of your dog. You can cut bigger pieces for big dog's and smaller pieces for small dogs.
It is soft in texture, so its easy to eat, it isn't too fattening or greasy either.

You will need:
8oz lambs liver (washed)
4oz Self raising flour
2 eggs.
2 cloves of garlic.

Oven will need to be at 180C.

Wash the lambs liver and put it in a food processor and puree it.
Add the flour, eggs and garlic and whizz them in the blender till smooth
Line the tin with greaseproof paper and pour in the mixture, using a knife to smooth out edges.
Bake on the middle shelf for 30-35 minutes; Remove from the tin and peel off the greaseproof paper then pop it back in the tin upside down and put in the oven for a further 5-10 minutes.
Once cooked place on a wire rack and leave to cool.
Store in the fridge and use within 3 days.
Put what you wont use in a plastic bag and keep in the freezer till wanted.

Doggy ice cream
You will need;
A mashed banana
Runny honey
Low fat vanilla yogurt.

Mix all the ingredients together and pour into a freezable plastic tub and put in the freezer.

This is a great recipe for those hot summer days.
You can pop a scoop in a bowl for the dog to eat.
If you want to make it last even longer then put it in your doggies kong.
Just block the hole at the bottom with some cream cheese or peanut butter, the pour in the mixture and freeze.
This should be eaten outside or on a washable surface as it can be messy.

Tuggy toy

Don't throw away old tea towels or bath towels, recycle them into a tuggy toy for your dog.
Cut 3 strips, tie the ends together in a knot, and then plait along the length, tying another knot when you reach the end.
You could also push some treats inbetween the plait to encourage your dog to play even more.

Do not leave your dog unsupervised incase he/she decides to eat it.

Buried treasure

Does your dog love to dig and end up ruining your garden?
Well here may be your solution, buy your dog their own sand pit!
You can either construct your own one or buy a plastic childs one and fill with sand and then bury treats and toys encouraging your dog to dig in their instead of your wonderfully flowered garden.

Ball Game

Do you have any odd socks laying around? and some old tennis balls?
Well to make a new game for your dog simply pop the ball into the sock and push it to the end and tie a knot to keep it in place.
This creates a handle for your throw the ball and saves you from getting slimey hands.
You can also throw the ball further.
It will also make a great tuggy toy.

Dog bed

Make a bed for your dog.
All you need to do it buy a cheap washable duvet and have a home made cover.
To make the home made cover all you need to do is get some fabric and make sure you can have two equal size pieces.
Place the fabric on top of each other so it's inside out and sew. Leave one side not sewn you can place the duvet inside the cover.
Turn it the correct way and then fasten some velcro on the inside of the opening so you can easily access the duvet when it needs washing.
Just fold the duvet in half or to the correct size to fit the cover and then pop inside and velcro the opening up.

Hope your enjoy the tips and feel free to send me a picture of anything you make :-)
